Saw Harry Potter today and LOVED IT OMG SO MUCH. I am going through a bit of an HP renaissance, I just bought Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix on blu-ray, and am currently in the middle of rereading Half Blood Prince.

The movie was definitely the best one yet, there was a great balance between then comedy bits and the plot points and the scary stuff. And OMG that ending...just took my breath away. I know as I reread I will find things that I wish they'd kept in, but of the parts they did change, I felt they all worked in the text of the film.

Definitely going to see it again!

1. no white tomb.
2. no explanation of the half blood prince.. a passing mention by hermione and sudden reveal by snape
3. no explanation of why voldemort is choosing these particular objects and locations for the horcruxes
4. no battle at the end
5. random scene with bellatrix and greyback on winter break BURNING DOWN THE BURROW
6. changing the time and circumstances of harry/ginny beyond recognition

... that said, i enjoyed it immensely.. but they could've done better

1. As I was rereading, I thought the white tomb would be a great way to open The Deathly Hallows. We'll see if they go there.

2. The explanation in the book isn't all that great, in my opinion. I mean, it's the title of the freakin' book and we get a brief scene and that's it. It should've been called Harry Potter and the Horcruxes.

3. Again, I think because they are going to have so much more time by splitting DH into 2 films that we'll get all the Horcrux info in the first one. I do agree that they should've spent more time on them because they're such a huge thing, but I'm hoping that that's what DH will be all about.

4. Yeah I wanted more of a battle too, but I did love the image of Harry chasing Snape down the hill.

5. Point. No idea what that was about, though I do love me some Bellatrix being fucking loony.

6. Honestly, I never bought Harry/Ginny in the books, I was always a Harry/Hermione girl. I couldn't get into Hermione/Ron at all, and H/G just felt even more out there. That being said, actually SEEING it made me buy it a little more, though I think that was more the work of the comedic love triangle scenes. Of course, my favorite scene in the whole movie was Hermione crying to Harry on the steps after Lavender kissed Ron.

I really liked it, and I'm very curious to see what we get from HBP dropped into DH Part 1. I mean, where they've had 2 and a half hours, they now potentially have 5. I really think they'll come up with some great stuff and weave the horcrux stuff into Part 1. Who knows though.
