My sister just called.

My dad is in the hospital. He got an infection on his leg from his knee brace and ski boot rubbing together and showed it to the doc at the ski slope today and he took one look at it and sent my dad to the emergency room. It sounds like staph. My sister said he doesn't look so good, and that they have him on antibiotics and are going to keep him for at least a day or two.

My friend Ambrose had a staph infection over the summer, and he almost lost his foot, and he had to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks and couldn't work for 3 months. I know this is a very serious thing and I just hope and pray that it hasn't gotten that bad yet and that they are able to fight it off. I just - it's very scary being so far away from it all. And my mom and sister are coming out here on Thursday, which would leave him all alone, which is the last thing I want.

I don't know. I'm trying to stay calm but I'm freaking. And to think I was just on the phone with him a few hours ago complaining about my car. Jesus. Please let him be okay.

BIG BIG HUGS. Luckily your dad had a great doctor who got him right to the hospital and thus onto medication immediately. That's got to have an impact.

I'm thinking of you.

Yeah, hopefully they got it in time...but it was already pretty bad because the doc took one look and ordered him to the hospital. He's waiting for a room and a doctor now, so hopefully the prognosis will be good.

It could also be that they just want to be cautious, you know? Keep the faith. Many hugs. I'll send good thoughts your way in spades.

Thinking of you.

staph can be bad, but keep your hopes up... mike got staph in his thumb this summer [after slicing it right well with a knife] and he pulled through just fine...

my thoughts are however are with him.

Everyone seems to be getting sick this christmas, Serena. But on the plus side they all seem to be getting better again. Try to stay positive, your Dad's going to be fine.

I really, really hope everything is ok. Thank God for a doctor that doesn't fuss around and just sends you to get it treated. That's what the health care system is there for.

I had a friend who had a staph infection and it went extremely far before he went to the doctor. He was still fine. Here's hoping, my love. Thinking of you.

If they caught it early enough, he should be ok. Considering he's in the hospital, they probably gave him IVed antibiotics which are a lot stronger and more effective than oral. Keep us updated and let us know how he is doing! I'll keep him in my prayers!

Although staph infections can be very bad, the fact that they are only looking at keeping your father in the hospital for a day or two is encouraging. My husband ended up with MRSA after abdominal surgery, and had a very long haul, but he's fine now. I hope your father recovers quickly.

Keeping you and yours in my thoughts. I'll be skiing in my knee brace, too, next year. I think I'll remember this and stop when it hurts. :hugsyou: I hope all is well.
