We are in the middle of a severe weather/tornado warning. Apparently one just touched down in Elgin, west of Chicago. There's continuous thunder and lightning and wind. Yikes.

We are supposed to celebrate Adam's birthday tonight. Ominous?

I bought a $200 bottle of liquor today. It's the kid's birthday, he deserves something nice now that he's an old man.

Scary, huh? The National Weather Service has confirmed that an F-2 tornado touched down in Deerfield (2 towns away from us) on Thursday, July 24th. This was the first-ever tornado to hit New Hampshire; it barreled through a total of nine towns. Y'know what's scarier? A 57 yr. old Deerfield grandmother was killed shielding her 3 month old grandson from the howling winds; rescue personnel discovered her body amid the rubble of her home when they heard a baby crying. She was babysitting him. The baby was hospitalized for a few days but seems to be fine now. The rescue workers had to go door-to-door searching for any injured people. We're still reeling from the shock.

On a happier note, I hope Adam enjoyed his birthday festivities.

Yikes! They were such horrible storms. I haven't heard of any casualties out here but I know there was a good amount of damage.

Have you seen any flooding or flash flooding in Chicago or the outlying suburbs? We've had flash flooding here in the Lakes Region that caused a mud slide (aren't mud slides indigenous to California?) in Bath. Also, a 7 yr. old girl was killed tonight when a flash flood swept the car she, her parents and a sibling were in, trying to escape the flooding in a campground. It's so sad. Local meteorologists have forecast more thunderstorms in our weather for the next 4 days.
